The high-profile Minneapolis Convention Center was expanded through a construction management joint venture between THOR Construction and Mortenson. The 600,000 square foot expansion included a theater, ballroom and additional meeting spaces. The facility includes a state-of-the-art auditorium, which features individual seat controls for audience members among other high-tech innovations. As construction manager for the project, THOR oversaw contracts with sub-contractors who were responsible for ensuring the project's on-time completion. During the construction, THOR was faced with some challenges that placed the much anticipated project deadline in jeopardy. Sandy soils discovered on the site had to be corrected resulting in a minor delay. After the dust had settled THOR and Mortenson completed the project on time and within budget and exceeded the City of Minneapolis's expectations."
