Downtown Minneapolis is home to the new, resource-rich Central Library where a 2.5 million-item collection makes the building the largest of any public library in the State, and the fourth largest library in the nation. THOR Construction in a joint venture with Mortenson, is providing the construction management for the five-story, concrete and glass building. Special design elements enhance the building's interior and exterior, with areas specifically designed for children, teens and adults. The Library Hall serves as grand civic space and welcomes visitors to the building. Other features include a green roof with its own irrigation system, four fireplaces designed to invite community gathering, meeting rooms, a technology training room, café, bookstore, auditorium, and a new immigrant center. Two floors of underground parking provide convenient visitor parking.
